Humanitarian crisis in Sudan and South Sudan leaves millions starving and displaced

In South Sudan, the EO Metterdaad campaign highlighted a dire humanitarian emergency as the country marked its 15th year of independence. Aid organization ZOA estimates that more than 7.8 million people are facing hunger, with families struggling due to violence, drought, floods, and pest‑infested crops. The campaign, working with partners Dorcas and Red een Kind, provides food vouchers, seed kits, agricultural training and education for children, aiming to address both immediate needs and longer‑term resilience.

In neighboring Sudan, a three‑year war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has escalated into the world’s largest ongoing humanitarian crisis. Over 150,000 people have been killed, millions displaced, and acute food shortages affect a majority of the population. Reports cite widespread sexual violence, accusations of ethnic cleansing in Darfur, and alleged arms support from the United Arab Emirates to the RSF. International aid is hampered by access restrictions, leaving the crisis to worsen each day.
