Humanitarian efforts focus on water hygiene and resilience in Chad and Mayotte

Humanitarian organizations are intensifying efforts to address water hygiene, disease prevention, and socio-economic resilience in Africa. In Mayotte, the French Red Cross is organizing awareness days from August 24 to 27, 2026, focused on water management and hygiene to prevent waterborne diseases among vulnerable populations.

In Chad’s Lake Province, the Red Cross conducted a sanitation and cholera prevention campaign in Daboua on August 20, 2026, targeting high-traffic areas like markets and water points. This follows reports of cholera cases in the country. Additionally, humanitarian actors met in the region on August 19 to discuss solidarity and resilience in the face of conflicts, food insecurity, and floods.

Furthermore, the RESILAC 2 project conducted an evaluation mission in Kollom and Midi-Koura on August 18, 2026. The mission reviewed economic and social recovery initiatives, including market gardening and labor-intensive works. Local communities emphasized the urgent need for improved hydraulic infrastructure, agricultural equipment, and vocational training for youth to combat climate change impacts.
