Humpback whale spotted in Danish and German Baltic waters

A humpback whale was sighted off the Danish Baltic coast near Aarhus, with authorities saying the animal appears ill and urging vessels to keep a safe distance. The Danish Environment Agency emphasized that disturbance could add stress to the already vulnerable whale and asked the public to observe it from afar.

Later, the same individual – possibly the whale previously known as “Timmy” – was reported in German waters near Holnis, about 5‑6 km from Egernsundbroen, on 5 July. Animal‑rights group Stranded No More named the whale “Hartwin” and warned that, like the earlier case where a rescued whale later died, the animal could face serious danger if further intervention is attempted. No rescue operation has been launched yet, but authorities and conservation groups continue to monitor the situation.
