The remains were eventually processed in Denmark into biodiesel and biomass.

The incident sparked intense European debate regarding wildlife rescue ethics, with experts questioning whether human intervention causes more stress than benefit. This debate even inspired a theatrical production in Hamburg.

In June and July 2026, a second whale, dubbed “Hartwin,” was sighted in Danish and German waters. Experts noted the animal appeared weak, with skin lesions and a pale appearance, raising fears it would suffer the same fate as Timmy due to the Baltic’s low salinity and food scarcity. On August 14, a seven-meter carcass believed by activists to be Hartwin was discovered in the Greifswalder Bodden.
