HUN-REN announces Athletica Galactica astronomy competition

The HUN-REN Research Centre for Astronomy and Geosciences has announced the Athletica Galactica astronomy and astrophysics competition for the 2026/2027 academic year. The event is designed for Hungarian-speaking secondary school students within the Carpathian Basin.

Under the patronage of Dr. László Kiss and with jury chair Dr. Róbert Szabó, the competition focuses on thematic physics rather than celestial knowledge. It aims to identify students with strong problem-solving skills in physics and mathematics. Top performers from local rounds will advance to a national final, with the highest achievers earning the opportunity to represent Hungary at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in 2027.
