Hung Yen police arrest two for illegal logging of rare timber
Authorities in Hung Yen province have arrested two men, Trinh Van Thanh and Nguyen Van Cau, for illegal logging and forest protection violations. The investigation follows a raid on a warehouse in Thuong Hong ward where officials discovered 292 logs of Sa mu dầu wood.
The seized timber, weighing approximately 18,049 kg, has been identified as Cunninghamia konishii, a species classified as a rare and precious forest plant. Investigators determined that Nguyen Van Cau purchased the wood from Trinh Van Thanh to store at his facility. Both suspects surrendered to the police on August 21, and the case is currently under further investigation by the Hung Yen Provincial Police.
