Hung Yen Police warn of social insurance electronic card scams
Hung Yen Provincial Police have issued a warning regarding a new cyber fraud tactic targeting social insurance users. Scammers are impersonating social insurance officials or local government officers via phone calls and messages to request the installation of a fraudulent “electronic social insurance card” application.
The criminals often claim that citizens need to synchronize personal data or update electronic health insurance for children under six years old. To build trust, they may initially instruct victims to visit local administrative offices. If the victim cannot attend in person, the scammers offer “remote support” via Zalo, sending malicious links to install fake applications.
Once the fraudulent app is installed and permissions are granted, the attackers gain control of the victim's device. This allows them to steal bank account information and OTP codes to transfer funds out of the victim's accounts. Authorities advise the public not to follow instructions from strangers on social media, avoid clicking suspicious links, and use only official applications like VssID or VNeID.
