Cyber fraud warnings in Hung Yen
Overview
Hung Yen Provincial Police have issued multiple warnings regarding evolving cyber fraud tactics targeting local residents.
Initially, authorities alerted the public to scammers impersonating social insurance or government officials. These criminals use phone calls and messages to trick victims into installing fraudulent “electronic social insurance card” applications under the guise of synchronizing personal data or updating health insurance. Once installed, these malicious apps allow attackers to seize control of devices and steal bank account information and OTP codes.
Subsequently, police identified a new phishing scheme involving fraudulent digital wedding invitations. In this tactic, scammers impersonate friends or relatives on social media platforms like Facebook and Zalo. Victims who click the malicious links in these electronic invites may be redirected to fake websites designed to steal login credentials and phone numbers, or prompted to download malware that monitors messages and contacts to facilitate bank theft.
