Hungarian BUX Index climbs on US‑Iran peace deal optimism

The Budapest Stock Exchange’s BUX index closed up 1.38% at 137,602.78 points, with trading volume of 38.4 billion forints, after news of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran lifted international risk sentiment. The deal, which ends hostilities and intends to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, sparked gains across global markets and buoyed Hungarian equities.

Leading domestic shares reflected the trend: OTP Bank surged 3.2% to 43,850 forints, breaking a resistance level at 42,481 forints, while analysts note the next hurdle at 44,827 forints. Richter rose 1.6% to 12,120 forints. In contrast, oil‑related stocks fell – Mol dropped 1.7% to 3,760 forints amid falling oil prices, and Magyar Telekom slipped 0.88% to 2,706 forints. European benchmarks were mixed, with the London FTSE down 0.4% and Spain’s IBEX leading gains at +1.4%, while Germany’s DAX, Italy’s FTSE‑MIB and France’s CAC 40 rose between 0.4% and 1.1%.
