Hungarian cinema prepares for diverse autumn release season

The Hungarian film industry is preparing for a diverse autumn release schedule despite ongoing domestic financing uncertainties. Upcoming highlights include Kornél Mundruczó’s ‘A Place to Be’ and Lili Horvát’s first English-language film, ‘Mackenzie Davis’.

A significant cultural event is the 4K digital restoration of the 1986 Queen concert documentary, ‘Magic - Queen in Budapest’. Restored by Peter Jackson’s team, the film will be screened at the Uránia National Film Theatre as part of the Budapest Classic Film Marathon from September 15–20. The restoration features Freddie Mercury singing the Hungarian folk song ‘Tavaszi szél vizet áraszt’.

Other notable upcoming releases include Erik Novák’s provocative comedy ‘10 éjszakás kaland’ (10-Night Adventure), premiering September 17, and Dénes Orosz’s modern adaptation of Georges Feydeau’s farce, ‘Félrelépni szabad’. The autumn lineup is expected to offer a wide variety of genres, ranging from independent productions and theatrical adaptations to commercial audience films.
