Hungary announces 4 billion HUF program for August 20 national holiday
The Hungarian government has announced a three-day program for the August 20 national holiday, titled ‘August 20 – The National Holiday – Together in Europe for a Thousand Years’. The celebration series, costing approximately 4 billion HUF, will take place across ten locations in Budapest, including Margaret Island, Buda Castle, and the Parliament.
Key highlights include a traditional flag-raising and military parade at Kossuth Square, a 30-minute audiovisual show projected onto the Parliament building, and a shortened 10-minute fireworks display. Other events feature food festivals, concerts, and family-oriented activities. The Parliament will also be open to visitors free of charge from August 20 to 22.
In addition to the capital's festivities, regional events such as the 25th Savaria Historical Carnival in Szombathely and international folk dance festivals are also scheduled for mid-August.
