Hungarian co‑production 'Only Beautiful Things to Look At' wins FIPRESCI prize at Karlovy Vary
The Slovak‑Czech‑Hungarian drama *Only Beautiful Things to Look At* received the FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) award for best film in competition at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 3–11). Directed and co‑written by Ivan Ostrochovsky, the film depicts the forced sterilisation of Roma women in former Czechoslovakia during the 1980s, following a hospital doctor who begins to question her role after a new friendship develops. The production, backed by Hungary’s National Film Institute and made by Proton Cinema, lists Hungarian co‑producer Berkes Júlia and executive producer Petrányi Viktória. It stars Czech actress Anna Geislerová, with supporting roles by Péter Bárnai and Franciska Farkas. The festival, a key cultural event in the Czech spa town, screened 137 titles to more than 130,000 viewers.
The film is slated for its Hungarian theatrical release in the first half of 2027 through Budapest Film.
