Hungarian doctor Zacher Gábor warns of surge in severe electric‑scooter injuries

Emergency physician Dr. Zacher Gábor says the number of serious injuries from electric scooters has risen sharply in Hungary, with many cases involving life‑threatening head injuries, multiple fractures and severe trauma. He cited a recent incident in Nógrád where a child collided with a car while riding an e‑scooter, and reported that a single emergency department earlier this spring was filled with roller‑related patients.

Zacher stresses that many riders treat e‑scooters as toys despite their high speed, often forgoing helmets and even riding after alcohol consumption. He urges rapid regulatory action, welcoming the upcoming KRESZ traffic‑code amendment that will address e‑scooter rules, to prevent further preventable deaths and injuries among young users.
