Hungarian Football Federation Adjusts Match Times to Cut Energy Use

The Magyar Labdarúgó Szövetség (MLSZ) announced immediate measures to reduce electricity consumption amid extreme heat and anticipated energy‑supply difficulties. Starting 1 August 2026, all NB I, NB II and NB III league matches will be scheduled to begin no later than 17:30, allowing games to be played in natural daylight and avoiding stadium lighting. If a match cannot be shifted to meet the energy‑saving target, it will be postponed. The federation is coordinating with clubs, broadcasters and media partners, and has urged clubs to provide additional water stations, cooling facilities and free drinking‑water points for spectators. Some clubs, such as Újpest FC, will still play earlier – for example at 15:30 – despite forecast temperatures of up to 40 °C, with extra health‑safety provisions. The policy forms part of a broader national effort to curb electricity use during the heatwave.
