Hungarian government implements rapid anti-corruption reforms

The Hungarian government, led by Péter Magyar, is undergoing a rapid transformation aimed at dismantling the corruption-based system established during Viktor Orbán’s sixteen-year tenure. According to reports citing The Guardian, the pace of these reforms is being described as unprecedented in Hungary since the 1989 transition to democracy.

Key developments include the appointment of András Baka, the former President of the Supreme Court, to a significant role following legal disputes regarding the previous administration's judicial actions. Additionally, state television has resumed broadcasting after a six-week hiatus as part of efforts to eliminate institutional bias.

To address the potential loss of over 100 billion euros in public funds, the government has established the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office. Furthermore, Hungary has confirmed its accession to the European Public Prosecutor's Office to strengthen the oversight of EU funds and combat corruption within the country.
