Following the end of Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule, Prime Minister Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party have initiated a period of rapid institutional transformation. In a recent move to reshape the judiciary, the Hungarian Parliament elected five new judges to the Constitutional Court, all nominated by the Tisza Party. The new members—Nóra Chronowski, András György Kovács, Miklós Ligeti, Árpád Gábor Orosz, and Zsolt Szomora—received 137 votes in favor and 6 against during a secret ballot. These judges will serve nine-year terms following a constitutional amendment establishing a retirement age of 70. The process was boycotted by Fidesz and KDNP, who labeled the procedure an “undermining of constitutionality” and “illegitimate.”

Magyar has also advanced social and legislative agendas. The government is launching a 10 billion forint emergency child protection program to fund professional programs and create 184 new or upgraded residential places. Additionally, social sector workers are set to receive 20–25 percent pay rises in two stages starting in November. Despite an inherited 8.3 percent budget deficit, Magyar has pledged significant increases to family allowances in the 2027 budget and aims to introduce a new constitution and electoral laws by 2030.
