Hungarian literary festivals highlight Colm Tóibín and Ibolya Cs. Nagy
The 31st Budapest International Book Festival is being held at HUNGEXPO from October 1 to 4. The guest of honor is Irish author Colm Tóibín, who will present his novel ‘The Magician’ (A Varázsló), a work centered on the life of Thomas Mann. Tóibín received the Budapest Prize from Mayor Gergely Karácsony during the opening ceremony and is scheduled for a podium discussion and book signing on October 3. Additionally, the retailer Libri is distributing 10,000 free volumes of Ottó Tolnai’s selected poems to students.
In Debrecen, the seventh Térey Book Festival took place from September 14 to 18, focusing on local literary traditions and contemporary authors. A highlight of the event was a celebration for 80-year-old literary historian Ibolya Cs. Nagy. The city of Debrecen honored her with the Civic Decoration of the City of Debrecen for her decades of work in interpreting Hungarian literature, particularly regarding authors from Transylvania.
