Hungarian literary festivals and events

Overview

The 31st Budapest International Book Festival is being held at HUNGEXPO from October 1 to 4. The event features Irish author Colm Tóibín as the guest of honor, who received the Budapest Prize from Mayor Gergely Karácsony.

During the festival, new literary anthologies have been introduced, including ‘Hallunk titeket’, which analyzes the lyrics of contemporary Hungarian songwriters, and ‘Véremben a tenger’, an anthology of contemporary Irish poetry translated into Hungarian by several poet-translators.

Additional international guests include French comic book writer Mark Eacersall, who is discussing the recently released Hungarian edition of the ‘Pitcairn’ graphic novel alongside illustrator Gyula Németh at the Budai Képregényklub. Swiss author Nelio Biedermann is also attending, presenting his novel ‘Lázár’, which draws on the history of his Hungarian aristocratic ancestors and their experiences through 20th-century political and economic upheavals.

In a separate literary event in Debrecen, the seventh Térey Book Festival recently concluded, celebrating literary historian Ibolya Cs. Nagy with the Civic Decoration of the City of Debrecen for her work in interpreting Hungarian literature.
