Hungarian opposition Fidesz files extensive Constitutional Court challenge to June reforms

The opposition party Fidesz has submitted a more‑than‑100‑page request to Hungary’s Constitutional Court seeking review of a series of legislative changes approved in June by the parliamentary majority of Prime Minister Péter Magyar’s government. The filing, announced by former justice minister Bence Tuzson on Facebook, targets a 16th constitutional amendment, reforms to the powers of parliamentary investigative committees, a law transforming public‑media ownership, and a statute restricting political advertising, among other measures.

Fidesz argues the provisions threaten Hungary’s sovereignty and the rights of its citizens, noting that several of the laws are tied to the release of EU‑frozen funds. The party claims that both the content of the statutes and, in some cases, the legislative process itself violate the constitution and endanger the interests of the Hungarian people.
