NVVH leadership selection sparks controversy over scoring process

Controversy has emerged regarding the selection process for the leadership of the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office (NVVH). István Hantosi, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Constitutional Affairs, clarified that while a scoring system was used, it did not evaluate the professional quality of applications. Instead, the 1, 2, or 3-point scale was used by committee members to indicate which candidates they wished to interview personally.

This clarification follows allegations from Ákos Hadházy, who claims to have reviewed a list of 96 applicants. Hadházy argues that based on professional qualifications, leadership experience, and education, the elected president, Anna Unger, would not have ranked within the top sixty candidates under an objective scoring system. He suggests the committee failed to properly review the majority of the applications.

In response to the ongoing debate and perceived misunderstandings, the parliamentary committee has decided to declare previous applications for three deputy president positions unsuccessful and will initiate new recruitment processes for the roles of deputy presidents for public finance, prosecution, and appeals.
