Hungarian PM Peter Magyar condemns Fidesz for blocking presidential removal amendment
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar sharply criticised President Tamás Schüll and the ruling Fidesz party, led by Viktor Orbán, for preventing the president from signing the 17th constitutional amendment that would allow Schüll's removal from office. Magyar described the parliamentary vote on the amendment as a decisive phase of the “Cleanup” operation, saying it would create a National Service for Return and Asset Protection, end a decades‑long political monopoly and dismantle Orbán’s network of political puppets. He warned that the constitution gives the president only five days to sign the amendment and that any refusal would trigger parliamentary proceedings to dismiss him.
The PM emphasized that the amendment is essential for restoring democratic will and warned that failure to sign under Orbán’s pressure would lead to immediate action against the president.
