Hungary's Prime Minister Péter Magyar Calls for Unconditional Patriotism in Presidential Candidates

Prime Minister Péter Magyar addressed parliament, saying the next president of Hungary must demonstrate unconditional love for the country. He urged parties and civil society to propose candidates who can serve the entire nation, free from past pacts or established customs.

Magyar emphasized that the head of state need not be a career politician or lawyer; professionals such as biologists, historians, doctors or artists could qualify if their integrity and life’s work show they can uphold national unity and the rule of law.
