Hungarian poll shows Fidesz voters divided over Orbán's predictions
A July 2026 poll commissioned by the newspaper HVG asked Hungarians how they assessed former Prime Minister Orbán Viktor's speech at the Tusványos conference and whether they believed his forecast that the Tisza Party's "autocratic system" would become unsustainable. Twenty percent of respondents said they had listened to the speech, about half read a summary, and 30 % said they did not follow it at all.
The poll found that only 15 % think the current parliamentary opposition will soon surpass the Tisza Party in popularity. When asked about possible shifts in Tisza support, 21 % said a decline would not strengthen Fidesz, 28 % expected the party to keep its present level of backing, and 36 % believed the Tisza Party would remain the leading force even if its support fell. Among voters who backed Fidesz in April, less than half trust Orbán’s predictions, and 27 % think that those who leave the Tisza camp will not return to Fidesz.
