Volánbusz bribery investigation leads to arrests of Jellinek and Szivek
The Central Investigative Chief Prosecutor's Office (KNYF) has launched a large-scale coordinated operation involving nearly 40 officials to investigate a multi-billion forint bribery case. The investigation centers on Volánbusz Zrt., specifically regarding its passenger transport services and the procurement of buses.
Authorities have taken three individuals into custody. While the prosecutor's office has not officially released names, politician Péter Magyar announced that the investigators detained Dániel Jellinek, a prominent businessman, and Norbert Szivek, the former CEO of the Hungarian National Asset Management Inc. (MNV).
In response, Indotek Group, led by Jellinek, issued a statement asserting that Jellinek has committed no crime and has been cooperating with authorities since being summoned on September 10. The company stated that the investigation does not affect the group's operations and expressed confidence that the inquiry will confirm his innocence.
