Hungarian Public Media Overhaul Triggers ATV and Kossuth Radio Shifts

The restructuring of Hungary's state-owned media group MTVA has led to significant personnel and programming changes. Veteran journalist Vogyerák Anikó, who has worked at ATV since 1999 and held several editorial roles, is reported to be leaving the broadcaster amid reports that ATV faces a loss of state advertising revenue and a wave of staff departures as competitors like M1 revamp their offerings.

At the same time, listeners of the historic Kossuth Radio have been affected by a frequency reshuffle that replaced the news service with the Bartók classical channel. An 80‑year‑old listener complained that he no longer receives Kossuth Radio on its traditional frequency, prompting a planned complaint to the media regulator. The temporary management of MTVA recently suspended the former M1 and Kossuth Radio news services, prompting public debate in several towns about the impact of the changes on media consumption.
