Hungarian swimmers disqualified from European Cup race

Hungarian open water swimmers Dávid Betlehem and Bettina Fábián have been disqualified from a European Cup race due to improper swimming cap usage, despite finishing in podium positions. Betlehem finished third and Fábián finished second.

The disqualification stemmed from technicalities regarding sponsor and national lettering placement on their caps. In Betlehem's case, a technical delegate attempted to instruct him to flip his cap 30 seconds before the start, but the instruction was not heard. Fábián was also permitted to start with a red cap that was later deemed non-compliant.

Both athletes were notified of their disqualification only after completing the 10-kilometer race. Betlehem, an Olympic bronze medalist, has indicated he will consult with lawyers regarding the incident.
