Hungarian tax authority warns 62,000 firms of missed annual reports
Over 62,000 Hungarian businesses failed to publish their 2025 fiscal‑year annual report by the May 31, 2026 deadline. The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has begun issuing notifications to the delinquent firms.
NAV gives a 30‑day period from receipt of the first notice to submit the report without penalty. If the deadline is missed, a second notice may impose a fine of up to 200,000 forints and provides another 30‑day window. Continued non‑compliance results in deletion of the company’s tax number and initiation of dissolution procedures. In 2025, more than 9,000 tax‑number deletion cases and over 6,000 company‑termination actions were already opened. Companies that lose their tax number cannot issue invoices, claim VAT refunds, or conduct economic activity.
