Hungarian theater features new drama and classic rock opera
The Hungarian theater scene features upcoming productions including the Hungarian premiere of Ian Kershaw’s romantic comedy, directed by Károly Ujj Mészáros. The play, set on Preston Road in London during Christmas, will be performed at the Centrál Színház in Budapest with Dóra Szinetár translating the work. The production incorporates 300 projected images and eight film scenes, centering on a story involving a young writer and the 1977 Voyager space probe.
Additionally, a production of the landmark rock opera ‘István, a király’ by Levente Szörényi and János Bródy is scheduled. Based on Miklós Boldizsár’s drama ‘Ezredforduló’, the work explores the historical conflict between King Stephen, who sought to lead Hungary toward Western Christianity and modernity, and Koppány, who represented traditional tribal customs.
