Hungarian theatrical and operatic productions

The Hungarian performing arts scene is highlighted by several upcoming and ongoing productions. At the Centrál Színház in Budapest, the Hungarian premiere of Ian Kershaw’s romantic comedy, directed by Károly Ujj Mészáros, is scheduled. The production features a story involving a young writer and the 1977 Voyager space probe, utilizing 300 projected images and eight film scenes. Additionally, the landmark rock opera ‘István, a király’ by Levente Szörényi and János Bródy is set for performance, exploring the historical conflict between King Stephen and Koppány.

In the realm of ballet, the Hungarian State Opera’s production of ‘The Fountain of Bakhchisarai’ is scheduled for ten performances by the Hungarian National Ballet between October 29 and November 15. This production, choreographed by Daria Pavlenko to the music of Boris Asafiev, is inspired by Pushkin’s poetry.

Furthermore, the Harag György Company is participating in Romania’s National Theater Festival (UNITER) in Bucharest. Their production, ‘SOPRO – Suttogás a sötétben’, directed by László Bocsárdi, has experienced high demand with sold-out performances at the Bulandra Theater and has received multiple accolades, including nominations for UNITER awards.
