Hungarian theatre organizations dispute exclusion from systemic reform talks

The Hungarian Theatre Society (MTT) has announced that it was excluded from recent consultations regarding the restructuring of the Hungarian theatrical system. Led by President Attila Vidnyánszky, the organization stated that a proposal package for systemic changes was developed without their involvement, despite their previous offers to participate in professional debates.

The MTT rejected attempts to hold institutional leaders and creators from the past sixteen years collectively responsible for previous decisions. The organization has been a key partner in cultural governance during the current administration, having been involved in its founding in 2008.

Simultaneously, the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE) responded to reports regarding its senate proceedings. The university characterized claims that it is attempting to create a political issue as an attempt to misrepresent a standard procedure. This follows reports concerning the appointment of individuals to the foundation supporting the university, including figures linked to the current leadership and the National Institute for Theatre Science (OSZMI).
