Hungarian Theatre Society calls for end to political stigmatization

The Hungarian Theatre Society (Magyar Teátrumi Társaság) has issued a formal statement addressing the current state of Hungarian theatrical life. The organization expressed concern over rhetoric that attempts to characterize the past sixteen years of the industry through a single political lens, calling for an end to threats and stigmatization.

The Society emphasized that while professional reviews and audits are important for building trust, they should not serve as political tools or focus exclusively on specific theaters. They argued that the future of Hungarian theater must be addressed through constructive dialogue and mutual respect rather than exclusion or collective condemnation of past achievements.

Despite the tensions, the organization stated it remains open to direct and substantive negotiations with stakeholders in the theatrical sphere to resolve ongoing disputes and challenges.
