Hungarian tourism shows mixed July trends with rising revenue

In July, the Hungarian tourism sector showed mixed trends according to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. Approximately 2.5 million guests spent 6.7 million nights at tourist accommodations. While the total number of guests decreased by 0.4% compared to the previous year, the number of overnight stays saw a slight increase of 0.3%.

Domestic tourism saw a 0.8% increase in the number of guests, though the number of nights spent by these visitors decreased by the same margin, indicating shorter average stays. In contrast, foreign visitors decreased by 0.5% in total, but those who did visit stayed longer, with overnight stays increasing by 1.9%.

Regional performance varied: domestic visitors to Lake Balaton increased by 1.8%, while arrivals in Budapest dropped by 2.8%. Foreign visitor numbers at Lake Balaton fell by 5.2%, with notable declines from Slovakia, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Commercial accommodations saw a 3.9% rise in guests, whereas private and other accommodations experienced an 8.2% decline. Despite the fluctuations in visitor numbers, gross revenue for tourist accommodations rose by 5.8% to 148.1 billion forints.
