Hungarian tourists favor seaside vacations as Balaton beach fees climb
A recent study shows that nearly half of Hungarians plan a holiday this year, with the majority preferring a seaside destination over a domestic lake stay. Only about 15% intend to vacation at Lake Balaton, while most aim for foreign beaches, driven by factors such as gastronomy and varied activities. At the same time, entry fees for Balaton’s public beaches vary widely, ranging from 800 forints to 10,000 forints per adult day ticket depending on location, season and weekday.
The survey indicates that 52 % of respondents allocate less than 200,000 forints per person for vacation spending, and many rely on personal savings to fund trips. Despite higher costs, a significant portion of travelers exceed their budget, leading to overspending during holidays.
