Hungarian Wildfires Raze 15‑20 Hectares Near Pilisszentlászló and Border Areas

On Thursday night a forest fire erupted on the outskirts of Pilisszentlászló, engulfing roughly 15 hectares of woodland. Professional and volunteer fire units from Szentendre, Budapest, Leányfalu and Szigetmonostor responded, attacking the blaze from three sides, halting its spread and by the next morning containing the main front. Crews then focused on extinguishing smoldering trees on a ten‑hectare sector.

At the same time large fires broke out near the Hungarian‑Austrian border at Fertőrákos, burning about ten hectares and eventually crossing into Austria. Additional hotspots were reported between Érd and Százhalombatta, where thousands of cubic metres of compost ignited, and near Szarvas, threatening nearby homes. Firefighters employed water jets, hand tools and continuous water supplies to suppress the flames.
