Hungary and Czech Republic plan joint government summit
Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka and Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán met in Budapest to begin preparations for a possible joint cabinet meeting of the two governments, with October mentioned as a tentative timeframe. The ministers said the talks will cover Visegrád Group (V4) cooperation, EU enlargement, including Ukraine’s accession bid, and deeper collaboration in transport, healthcare, energy and economic competitiveness.
The meeting follows the recent V4 summit in Gödöllő and included discussions with Hungarian officials Márton Hajdu, chair of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and Gergely Gulyás, leader of the Fidesz parliamentary group. Macinka emphasized, “We are both aware that both the Hungarians and we are still relatively soon after the elections, so our government will remain a partner to the Hungarian government for a relatively long time.”
