Hungary economic confidence shows mixed trends in October
According to the October survey by GKI Gazdaságkutató Zrt., economic sentiment in Hungary is experiencing a divergence between consumers and businesses. The consumer confidence index fell by 2 points compared to the previous month and has dropped 8 points since its peak in July.
Respondents expressed declining optimism regarding the country's economic outlook for the next twelve months, with the economic outlook indicator falling by 6 points. This decline in consumer sentiment occurs despite the fact that many citizens were not yet aware of upcoming austerity measures related to the 2027 budget during the data collection period.
In contrast, business confidence has shown a slow recovery. After reaching a low point in July 2025, the business confidence index has been on a gradual upward trend, with the industrial sector emerging as the most optimistic segment. However, the overall composite index remained stagnant compared to September.
