Hungary economic outlook: Inflation and highway costs projected to rise
Economic forecasts for Hungary indicate shifting trends in inflation and growth. According to analysis from Erste Bank, inflation is expected to reach approximately 1.8 percent this year, with a potential acceleration to around 2.8 percent by the end of next year. GDP growth is projected at 1.7 percent for 2026, potentially rising to 2.2 percent in 2027.
While household consumption remains a primary driver of growth, analysts warn that geopolitical tensions, potential trade wars, and energy risks could challenge the export-oriented economy.
In a related economic development, projections based on a 1.3 percent inflation rate suggest that Hungarian highway vignette prices may increase by 2027. For example, the annual national D1 passenger car vignette could rise from 61,760 HUF to 62,560 HUF. Penalties for driving without a vignette are also expected to climb, with the base penalty potentially reaching 28,150 HUF.
