Economic forecasts for Hungary indicate shifting trends in inflation and growth. Analysis from Erste Bank suggests inflation may reach 1.8 percent this year, with a potential rise to 2.8 percent by the end of next year. GDP growth is projected at 1.7 percent for 2026, with potential increases in 2027. Analysts noted that geopolitical tensions and energy risks could challenge the export-oriented economy.

In specific sectors, private healthcare costs are rising significantly faster than the national inflation rate. According to the NN Insurance 2026 Private Medical Price Index, the average cost for a specialist or basic diagnostic examination rose by 5 percent over the past year, compared to a 1.3 percent annual inflation rate reported by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

While medical costs are increasing, the impact on median monthly net salaries has slightly lessened as wage growth has outpaced medical inflation. Price increases vary by service, with laboratory tests seeing a 10 percent jump, while ophthalmology and cardiac ultrasounds saw smaller increases of 1.9 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively.
