Hungary's tax authority warns over 170,000 vehicle owners of unpaid tax and offers payment plans
More than 170,000 Hungarian business owners have not paid this year’s vehicle tax, according to the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). NAV says those who request an interest‑free installment plan of up to five months can do so until June 30 through the NAV‑Mobile app; the application is processed automatically and does not require justification of the taxpayer’s financial situation.
Owners who neither pay the tax nor apply for an installment will incur penalty interest and risk having their vehicles removed from circulation. Payments can also be made via the NAV online portal, bank transfer to the designated vehicle‑tax account, or by card within the mobile app. NAV urges taxpayers to settle the debt promptly to avoid additional costs.
