Hungary faces systemic corruption in vehicle inspection system
An expert in state administration has highlighted systemic corruption and bureaucratic issues within the Hungarian vehicle inspection system. The report suggests that many inspection stations allow unfit vehicles to pass through fraudulent testing, often involving bribes.
This lack of oversight has resulted in unsafe, poorly maintained, and illegally modified vehicles remaining on the roads, posing significant risks to public health and road safety. The expert notes that while some stations operate correctly, hundreds of others reportedly extend inspections for vehicles that should be deemed unroadworthy. The situation is described as a growing challenge for the government to address, particularly given the age of the national vehicle fleet.
