European wildfires prompt travel advisories and consular warnings

Wildfires are affecting multiple regions across Europe, including Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Serbia, and Lower Austria. In Croatia, significant fires have broken out on the island of Dugi Otok, threatening residential areas and holiday homes. While some fires in Dalmatia have been localized, the situation on Dugi Otok remains critical due to difficult terrain hindering firefighting efforts.

Foreign Minister Anita Orbán has issued advisories for travelers, urging them to stay informed through official channels and to register for consular protection. The Consular Service reported a high volume of inquiries, with 170 calls received in a single night, many concerning the Omiš region. There has been a notable increase in the number of individuals registering for consular protection to ensure they can be reached more easily in case of emergencies.
