Hungary fuel prices remain stable amid rising EU costs

Fuel prices in Hungary have remained stable at the wholesale level, with no changes reported for 95-octane gasoline or diesel. As of late August, the national average price for 95-octane gasoline is 592 HUF per liter, while diesel stands at 681 HUF per liter, maintaining a gap of approximately 90 HUF per liter.

This stability in Hungary contrasts with broader trends across the European Union. According to Eurostat data, fuel and lubricant prices in the EU saw a 16.9 percent annual increase in July 2026 compared to July 2025. While many EU member states experienced significant price hikes—most notably in Romania (+24.2%), Germany (+22.9%), and Lithuania (+22.9%)—Hungary recorded a slight decrease of 0.1 percent over the same period.
