Hungary government bond purchases hit yearly lows

In Hungary, retail demand for government bonds has seen a significant decline. During the 38th week, the population purchased 35.3 billion forints worth of bonds, marking one of the lowest levels this year and a decrease of 3 billion forints compared to the previous week.

Among the specific instruments, the FixMÁP bond, which offers a 5.5 percent interest rate, accounted for 18.56 billion forints of the total. Other purchases included MÁP Plusz, Treasury Savings Certificates (KTJ), and Bonus Magyar Állampapír (BMÁP).

Despite the recent dip in weekly sales, the Hungarian State Treasury reports growing long-term engagement. Approximately 1.2 million customers now hold securities accounts at the Treasury, with 80,000 new accounts opened this year alone. Notably, 463,000 Start accounts have been established for long-term savings for children.
