Hungary holds by-elections in six municipalities

By-elections are being held in six Hungarian municipalities to fill vacancies in local governments. The elections include mayoral and representative races in Gersekaráton and Porcsalmán, as well as a mayoral race in Vaján. Additionally, representative elections are taking place in Kunbaracson, Nagykátán, and Budaörs.

In Gersekaráton, the election follows the dissolution of the representative body in June. Five independent candidates are contesting the mayoral position. In Porcsalmán, the council also dissolved in June, leading to a race between four independent mayoral candidates. The Vaján mayoral election was triggered by the resignation of the previous leader in May, with six independent candidates running.

In Kunbaracson, the election is necessary after three of the four independent representatives elected in 2024 resigned their posts. The election for the remaining seats includes several independent candidates and one representative from the Mi Hazánk Mozgalom movement.
