Hungary home renovation programs may resume
Unconfirmed market reports suggest that home renovation programs for energy modernization in Hungary may soon resume. These programs, which were suspended in April after funding limits were reached, target single-family homes built before 2007 both in Budapest and across the country.
The support structure typically includes a non-repayable grant of up to 5 million forints and an interest-free loan of up to 5 million forints, requiring only a 5 percent personal contribution. Projects must achieve at least a 30 percent primary energy saving.
There is speculation that the ministry might accept applications submitted before the suspension, even if they exceeded the initial budget, to assist those who have already invested in documentation. However, the delay raises concerns regarding the validity of cost estimates for materials and labor originally calculated for 2025, which may now be outdated.
