Hungary residential energy subsidy programs
Overview
In Hungary, discussions regarding the resumption of energy modernization and home renovation programs emerged following a suspension in April due to funding limits. These programs, which target single-family homes, involve grants and interest-free loans to achieve primary energy savings.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Economy and Energy announced revisions to the Home Energy Storage Program (OETP). Driven by a significant decrease in the market price of energy storage units, the government restructured the subsidy framework to expand the number of eligible participants from an estimated 42,000 to approximately 57,000.
Under the revised plan, the maximum subsidy for battery-only installations was reduced from 2.5 million forints to 1.8 million forints. The program now exclusively supports storage units capable of remote management. To accommodate administrative delays, the deadline for submitting eligibility documents and signing contracts was extended to February 26, 2027. Priority remains for applicants in settlements with populations under 5,000.
