Hungary negotiates potential return to Eurovision 2027
Hungary is negotiating a potential return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 after a seven-year absence. The interim leadership of the newly reorganized Hungarian public media service, Duna Médiaszolgáltató, has held discussions with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) regarding participation.
According to reports, the EBU has offered significant concessions to facilitate a return, including a substantial reduction in the participation fee and an extension of the application deadline to December 7, 2026.
While the discussions are positive, participation is not yet confirmed. The final decision remains a strategic matter that must be approved by the Independent Public Media Council and subsequently decided by the permanent leadership of the reorganized public broadcaster. Hungary last participated in the contest in 2019.
