Hungary launches energy efficiency inspections for electronics

The National Authority for Consumer Protection and Trade (NKFH) has launched inspections to verify the energy efficiency labeling and product information sheets for various electronic devices. This year, the focus is on smartphones, tablets, televisions, and monitors.

Government offices will conduct the inspections under the professional guidance of the NKFH. The checks will cover traditional retail stores, online shops, internet advertisements, and technical promotional materials. Authorities aim to ensure consumers receive accurate, comparable information regarding technical specifications, following the EU-standardized A-to-G energy scale reintroduced in March 2021.

The move follows previous enforcement actions where inspections of refrigerators and freezers revealed violations in 33 percent of traditional stores and 63 percent of online retailers. The current oversight includes checking the presence, placement, and content requirements of energy labels, as well as the accuracy of product data sheets.
