Hungary approves 76 bn‑forint EV upgrade at Suzuki’s Esztergom plant

Japanese automaker Suzuki’s global president Toshihiro Suzuki met separately with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Economic Minister István Kapitány. The discussions focused on the global automotive outlook, the shift to electric vehicles and possible future investments in Hungary.

Following the meetings, the Hungarian government announced a 76 billion‑forint (≈ 210 million USD) investment to modernise Suzuki’s Esztergom factory. The project will add capacity for electric‑vehicle production and battery‑pack manufacturing, increase the share of domestic suppliers, expand research and development and strengthen university collaboration. The plant, operating since 1991, employs about 2,800 workers, exports roughly 90 % of its output and produced 108,072 vehicles in 2025.

The upgrade is aimed at turning the Esztergom site from an assembly line into a higher‑value, technology‑focused hub within Suzuki’s global network, supporting Hungary’s wider electrification strategy.
