Suzuki EV plant upgrade in Hungary

In late July 2026 the Hungarian government confirmed a 76 billion‑forint (≈ 200 million USD) investment to modernise Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Esztergom manufacturing site. The programme will add capacity for electric‑vehicle assembly and battery‑pack production, upgrade crash‑box, paint and welding operations, and expand the role of domestic suppliers, research and development, and university collaboration. The plant, which employed about 2,800 workers and exported roughly 90 % of its output in 2025, is being transformed from a standard assembly line into a technology‑focused hub. Government officials, including Prime Minister Péter Magyar, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and Economy Minister István Kapitány, highlighted the project’s alignment with Hungary’s broader electrification strategy and its expected contribution to engineering talent and export growth.
